When it comes to anime figures, material is often considered one of the most important factors influencing price. But how accurate is this assumption in practice?

To explore this question, I collected pricing data from three collectible platforms—Orzgk, TopGKStore, and FavorGK—and compared figures across different materials while controlling for scale. By examining both resin and PVC figures within similar size categories, this analysis aims to provide a clearer view of how material relates to price.

The results suggest that resin figures are generally more expensive than PVC figures. However, this relationship is not absolute. Material often overlaps with other factors such as production method, product type, and brand positioning, making price differences more complex than they may initially appear.

2.Understanding PVC and Resin Materials

Before analyzing the data, it is important to understand what “material” means in the context of anime figures. The two most common categories in the market are PVC and resin, which differ significantly in production method, cost structure, and typical positioning.

The first two platforms were also used in a previous analysis on figure scale and price, allowing for consistency across datasets and making it easier to compare findings across different pricing factors.

In the earlier study, Speculative Fiction Collectibles was included as a third source. However, since many of its listings do not clearly specify material, it was replaced in this analysis by FavorGK, a similar collectible-focused platform offering comparable product categories.

These platforms were originally identified through a combination of search engine queries, social media content, and collector community discussions. Over time, they have become representative sources for different segments of the anime figure market.

To maintain consistency with the previous analysis, figures were sampled across three common scales: 1/4, 1/6, and 1/8. For each scale, both resin and PVC figures were selected whenever possible, resulting in a structured comparison across materials while controlling for size.

In total, the dataset includes figures from all three platforms, with each entry recording the product name, scale, material, and price. This approach allows for both distribution-based analysis (scatter plots) and aggregated comparisons (average price differences).

It is important to note that material classification is based on how products are labeled by each retailer. In some cases, figures may use a combination of materials rather than a single one. For consistency, each item is categorized according to its primary material as listed.
